Start planning your 2024 vaccine schedule

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has unveiled its finalized 2024 vaccination schedules for children and adults, which include a few new shots. Among the recommendations: the latest COVID-19 vaccine, which is essential given the surge in cases nationwide.

Here are some of the other CDC-recommended vaccines.

  • Abrysvo and Arexvy: These new vaccines, manufactured by Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline respectively, can protect certain at-risk patients from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Both are approved for people over 60; for expectant mothers, Abrysvo can prevent RSV infection in newborns if administered to expectant mothers at the end of pregnancy.
  • Penbraya: This Pfizer vaccine protects against the five variations of meningococcal disease that most commonly affect adolescents and young adults. The CDC has recommended it as a better alternative to the current two-shot regimen typically given to people ages 10 and older.
  • Jynneos: While the mpox vaccine isn’t necessarily new, this is the first year the CDC has included it on the recommended schedule for adults.
